Arts Council's annual show April 9-11
The Bourbon County Arts Council has announced it will open the 16th Annual Fine Art Exhibit and Sale with a reception honoring the artists and this year's juror at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Scottish Rite Temple, 110 S. Main St. in Fort Scott.
Artists from Kansas, Missouri and Vermont will have their work on display and for sale in this multimedia exhibit.
Some of the artists' names will be familiar to Bourbon County residents. Among the area artists participating are Minnie Lou Allen, Ottis Allen, Debbie Anderson, Dee Ann Davis, Kathleen Durbin, Barbara Gibson, Elizabeth Grantham, Mike Morris, Carolyn Munsell, and Eric Popp.
Dr. L. Bruce Holman, long-time art instructor at Cottey College, will serve as juror for this year's exhibit. Holman has earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Missouri, and he also holds a master of arts, a master of fine arts, and a Ph.D from Syracuse University.
Holman has published more than a hundred articles, has produced approximately 45 live-action and animated films, has published four books and has presented exhibitions of paintings and photographs on a continuous annual basis for more than 25 years.
The BCAC will host the weekly Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Coffee at 8 a.m. April 10 at the Scottish Rite Temple.
The exhibit will be open Thursday and Friday from 12 to 7 p.m. There is no admission charge.
Partial funding for the exhibit is provided by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
