Blu-Jay athletes set state records
WaKEENEY -- Two Pleasaton athletes set state meet records in winning titles at the Kansas Class 2A State Weightlifting Meet here Saturday.
Alex Richmond was one of the record setters as he bench pressed 315 pounds in the 165-pound weight class. He also took fourth in the squat at 320 pounds and was third overall with 850 total pounds lifted.
Darla Snyder set the other state record when she picked up 165 pounds in the power clean in the girls' powerweight division. She was second in the bench press with 165 pounds and third in the squat at 275 pounds. Her total of 665 pounds was second best in her class.
Danny McCullough won four medals in the 181-pound class, finishing fourth in bench press at 235 pounds, fifth in power clean at 235 pounds, sixth in the squat at 305 pounds and fifth overall at 775 pounds.
T.J. Davis placed sixth in the 220-pound class in the bench press, lifting 215 pounds.
"This was the second year in a row Alex won the bench press," Pleasanton coach Chris Brindle said. "Darla had a food meet, getting four medals. Danny placed in every lift and had a very steady day.
"We had a good meet and hope to take more lifters back next year."
