Fun visits for Easter, birthday celebrations

Mae Watt enjoyed the special attention she received from her family at Easter time. Tom and Phyllis Watt came from Lee's Summit to take Mae to her church Sunday morning, fixed special dinner for her and helped in many ways. That afternoon, they received phone call greetings for the Easter season from Tom's son and grandson, Tommy and Dawson Watt; Delton Watt Jr. and Billi, Bill and Karen, Allen and Linda and Douglas Watt.

Other guests in the Arcadia Christian Church on Easter morning included six young people taught by Betty Dehn. They were Courtney, Aaron, Joey and Danielle Allen, Alyssa Feltner and Angela Casey. Adult guests were Chris Harrison, Janet and Mark Vanleeuwen and Tara, and Bob Morris. The singing was led by a quartet, namely, Christy and Vera Parrish, Clay Carrington and David Peterson. The sermon was based on King Solomon's praise to God at the time of the dedication of the Temple. All learned that a covenant is a promise made by God that he always kept.

Sympathy goes to the Briggs family because of the recent death and burial of Donna Briggs Walker. Also Raymond Grace received word that his sister, Ethel Grace Freant, 92, died March 10, 2008, in Mountain Home, Ark. He plans to have a memorial service for her on March 29, in First Methodist Church, in his town of Carthage. She will be buried near the late Mrs. Raymond Grace, The Grace family grew up in Arcadia and attended the schools here. Ethel was cousin to local Walter Foulk.

On Monday, March 17, at the Senior Swingers Dance in Fort Scott, Bob Cavin was called to the front stage to celebrate his 80th birthday. His son, Roger, presented him with a birthday cake, guests sang as pictures were taken. Bob presented his family Roger's wife Diane Cavin, Fort Scott; Robert and Maria Gavin, of Fredricksburg, Va., and grandchildren Breant and Ashley, Fort Scott. Ice cream was served with the cake.

During spring break Alexandea and Seth Pruski came with their mother, Simeon, to visit their cousin Katy Shead and help her celebrate her first birthday at the home of Katy's grandparents, Larry and Vickie Shead, on March 6. The children enjoyed the farm animals, including the baby ducks, turkeys and chicks. The family were guests of Simeon's sister, Haley Shead and Mark, in Fort Scott, and returned to their home in Huntsville, Texas.

Norm Wagner, Dick Abram and Tom Watt, friends and co-workers from Kansas City, recently attended a business meeting and trade show in Guadalajara, Mexico.
