Junior varsity tennis adds pair of dates, will be at home Monday

PITTSBURG -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team has added a couple of dates to its schedule. One of those extra outings took place Tuesday. The other will be held Monday at the FSHS tennis courts starting at 3 p.m. as the Tigers will take on Chanute in a dual.

For most of the Tigers here, it was their first outing of the season. The highest finish was posted by the No. 2 doubles team of Colton Grillott and Carson Claypool, who took second place in their pool.

Grillott/Claypool defeated Dakota Burton/Austin York of Pittsburg Purple, 6-2; and Ryan Mayes/Taylor Madison of Pittsburg White, 6-0. They lost to Chanute's Zach Pryor/Mason Johnson, 6-4.

Ben Bristley finished in third place in No. 1 singles. He beat Brad Sommerfelt of Pittsburg White, 6-4. He lost to John Hamilton of Pittsburg Purple, 6-0, and Jimmie Quinn of Chanute, 6-1.

Kai Simmons-Mims and Grant Stucky were second-place finishers in No. 1 doubles. Their win came over David Elam and Joleeon Conley of Pittsburg White, 6-0. They lost to Pittsburg Purple's Miles Crowley/Clay Southern, 6-4, and Chanute's Aaron Westerman.David Collins, 6-2.

Andrew Benage was fourth in No. 2 singles with an 0-3 record. He lost to Pittsburg Purple's Mike Griffin, 6-3; Chanute's Mason Johnson, 6-0; and Pitsburg White's Matt Newport, 6-4.
