Girlfriend charged with Monday murder of Fort Scott native
The girlfriend of John Barbieri, a Fort Scott native, has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing the 37-year-old at his home on Monday.
Barbieri, who worked for Vista Pharmacy in Fort Scott, was found by Kansas City Police officers at around 7 a.m. Monday. Officers responded to the 5500 block of Saide Avenue on reports of a distrurbance and shots fired.
According to The Kansas City Star, neighbors called police after a woman knocked on doors asking for help. The woman, Syreta Toson, 29, of Kansas City, Mo., reported being in a distrurbance around the corner, according to The Star. When police found the address, they went in the open rear door and discovered Barbieri's body.
Jackson County, Mo., prosecutors charged Toson with first-degree murder on Monday. According to court records obtained by The Star, Toson told police she shot Barbieri after he forced her to smoke crack cocaine and then raped her.
