Arcadia Ham dinner, egg hunt bring large crowd

Lilly Coonrod spent last week visiting relatives in Topeka, Kan. She had dinner with her niece and nephew, Mary and Ken Bath, then visited granddaughter Abbie Westhoff, who is from Manhattan, Kan. She was overnight for the week with her daughter Carmen Ange and granddog Max.
Mary Lee and Jack Payne were weekend guests in the Independence, Mo., area and on Saturday attended the 90th birthday celebration dinner given for Fannie Mae Turner Christianson. The honor dinner was given by the honoree's son, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Turner.
Steve Sisney, Jeff Sisney and Helen Sisney were among the many relatives and friends who attended the 80th birthday celebration for Norma Sisney Radde in Nevada, Mo., on Palm Sunday. Norma was born and reared in and around Arcadia. After living in California and raising her family, she and her husband moved to the Sheldon, Mo., area.
Mary Gardner, 90, died on Saturday, March 1, in Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott. Visitation was held on Monday evening in Bedene Funeral Home, Arma, Kan. Graveside services, were conducted by pastor David Peterson in Hallowell, Kan., on Tuesday, March 18. He and Patty Peterson, Mae Watt, Carole Garrison and Mary V. Shead visited Judy and John Rawlings home on Palm Sunday afternoon. Others there were Judy's sister, Barbara Scott (Mary's daughters) and Janelle Rawlings, Joplin, Mo., her granddaughter.
According to fireman Mike Kreiger, a fine turn out of 114 attended the ham dinner with all the trimmings on Palm Sunday served by the Arcadia Firemen, assisted by the Old Settlers Festival Committee. This was held in the Arcadia Community Center from noon until 2 p.m. Much fellowship was enjoyed as the folks lingered longer. Some meals were carry-outs.
Later that afternoon, 25 attended the Easter Egg hunt held in the ball park. The one who found the golden egg was awarded the Easter Basket with chocolate bars inside. The workers appreciated the help from all who donated or assisted in any way. It was declared a great success.
On Palm Sunday in Arcadia Christian Church, pre-Easter songs were sung. It was announced that on Easter Sunday, the church group will again gather in the church building, as opposed to remaining in the bungalow as they have done, due to cold weather.
Marissa Mongahan was special guest Sunday morning in Patty Peterson's class. Birthday song was dedicated to Daniel Parrish, Jamie Watt and Dawson Ray Watt as the offerings were given.
Solomon building God's temple was the subject of the Sunday school lesson and continued sermon. The Keys to God's Commands included: Faithful ones will be saved; Encourage one another to be faithful; and Serve the Lord with all your heart.
