Elsie May Ray
Elsie May Ray, 87, died Sept. 13, 2008, at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston, Ore.
She was born May 13, 1920, in Strong City, Kan., to William Starbuck and Birdie Cox Starbuck. Elsie was reared and attended schools, in Kansas. She moved to Oregon in 1988, living in Hood River, and later The Dalles, Wis. Elsie moved to Hermiston in 1998 where she has lived since. She enjoyed bead work, crocheting, fishing and taking care of children.
She is survived by her sons, Billy R. Newton, and Leon Newton, both of Hermiston; daughter, Janice C. Herb, Winnsboro, Texas; brother Jack Starbuck, the state of California; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ray; one son, Alvin Newton, one daughter, Rosemary Newton; two brothers, George and Harold, and sisters Adeline and Alice.
A committal service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March, 18, at Sheldon Cemetery, in Sheldon.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada.
