SARA KAUFMANN HAAS

Sara Kaufmann Haas, age 91, of Munson Twp, Ohio, died March 4, 2008, at the Corinne Dolan Alzheimer Center in Munson Twp.

Born on July 10, 1916, in Fort Scott, Kan., she was a longtime resident of Plymouth, Mich., prior to moving to Ohio in 2001. She graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1934, Fort Scott Junior High in 1937, received a B.S. in Commerce from Northwestern University in 1939, and a Masters in Education from Eastern Michigan University in the late 1950s.

She was a life member of the American Association of University Women and several other professional associations. She instituted, along with others, many innovative programs for Plymouth, Mich. area children and adults. Sarah, along with others, worked for the fulfillment of their dream that would one day become Schoolcraft Community College near Plymouth, Mich. She was a K-1 teacher in Plymouth for 27 years.

She is survived by her daughters; Barbara (T) Parkinson of Munson Twp., and Elizabeth (James) Marzonie of Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Mayer Day Kaufmann of Topeka, KS; grandchildren David Parkinson, Jennifer (Kevin) Kraus, and Mark (Karen) Marzonie; great-grandchildren Danielle, April, Megan, Makinzie, Spencer and Mitchell; and great-great-grandchildren Jakob and Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marx Mayer and violet Audrey (nee Day) Kaufmann; and husband John Henry Haas whom she married on May 30, 1941, in Bemet, Ill.
