Easter dinner planned for March 16

All are reminded to mark their calendars for the Old Settler's and Arcadia Fire Department Easter Dinner to be served March 16 for a $5 donation per person from noon until 2 p.m. in the Arcadia Community Center.
That afternoon All kids are to assemble at the ball field at 2:30 p.m. for two Easter egg hunts for lots of eggs and prizes. Children ages 5 years and younger and 6-l3 years will hunt in separate groups.
Steve and Kelly Base, their son Ben Base and his fiancee, Faith Payne from Excelsior Springs, Mo., were weekend guests of Jack and Mary Lee Payne and special guests in the Arcadia Christian Church and the first Sunday of March Church Dinner.
The JOY Sunday school class had an interesting lesson taught by Gary Peterson concerning the transporting of the Ark of God. The lesson was continued by Pastor David Peterson during the worship hour.
Patty Peterson had five youth in her Sunday school class. Birthday offerings were given by Steve Base, Lorene Gibson and for Allyson Dugan who is 7 years old and Trinity Maurean Pruitt who is now 9 years old.
Alanis and Brigette Sprague from Parsons attended Sunday School and the church dinner with their grandfather, Pat Allen.
On Saturday, Feb. 23, Betty and Lou Dehn attended the Blue and Gold Boy Scout Banquet in Lexington, Mo., where their grandson, Austin Anderson, was honored for his accomplishments by going from Webelo to Boy Scout rank in just six months.
His parents, Christina Long, and father Lewis Anderson and his brothers, Blake and Cory Long, were also present.
Another grandson, Kyle Kraft, son of Michael Kraft and Melissa Due and step-dad, Eric Due, became a new member of Webloes that evening.
This was an exciting time for a family gathering and much enjoyed by the Scouts.
On Wednesday evening, Feb. 27, Ralph, Cindy, Larry and Mary V. Shead attended the Alumni Banquet at Ozark Christian College where a surprise honor was presented to two families who had been pastors in Arcadia Christian Church, one before they went to Santiago, Chile as missionaries and the other family as pastors in Arcadia after their return from Chile.
Phil and Susan Casey served in Arcadia from 1971-74. Chris and Carole DeWelt in l984-1993.
At the presentation of these two Seth Wilson Outstanding Alumni Awards were hundreds of people including the following connected to the OCC College and Arcadia Christian Church. They were the present Pastor, David Peterson; former Pastors, Charles and Willa Cable, from Redfield, Craig and Shirley Woolsey, Tulsa, Okla., and John Hunter, often a guest minister now employed by the College.
Former church members and friends of the honorees were George and Dorothy Quier, Joplin and Campus Christian Ministers, Don and Fran Smith from Pittsburg State University. It made the Arcadians very proud to be a part of this celebration.
On March 3, in the Arcadia Community Center members of the Northeast USD 246 Community participated in one of the public meetings cafe style. They discussed collective sharings of insights and common themes experienced throughout the evening. This was a new way of expressing ideas from each individual.
Word was received here of the death of Charles Vernon Hoggatt, a cousin to the late Paul Shead, on Feb. 28 in Palm Springs, Fla. He was the son of Vernon and Edith Shead Hoggatt. His parents both taught in the Arcadia Grade School many years apart. Charles is survived by his wife, Ethel Hoggatt of the home and a son, Greg Hoggatt and family also of Florida.
Arcadians were pleased the see and read the interesting article that pictured Jim Guthrie at his desk at Guthrie Motor, Inc. in the Nevada Daily Mail recently.
The headline read "Three generations and 75 years of automobile dealership."
Jim was born and raised in Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School. His parents Ione and Lawrence Guthrie moved their business to Nevada in l972. Jim and Shirley Guthrie moved from Arcadia when their 2 sons Lee and Mark were in Grade School. Lee is a lawyer in Nevada and Mark is in business with his dad at the dealership. The mother and Grandmother of the Clan, Ione Guthrie, former Sunday School teacher for many years of the boys' class in the Arcadia Christian Church also lives in Nevada, Mo.
On Thursday evening, the Sheads met in Arcadia with a carry in supper to celebrate Vickie Shead's birthday. On Friday they, Larry, Vickie, Mark, Haley and Katy Shead went to visit Mitzi and Joel Ray and Cademon. There in Tulsa, they joined with Maria Shead and her grandmother, Shirley Applegarth, to celebrate Mitzi's and Vickie's birthdays.
