Lord pleads guilty in drug case

A Moran man arrested by Bourbon County deputy sheriffs on drug charges Thursdayhas pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Marty Lord, 46, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful acts relating to the possession of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs or designated stimulants, a severity level four drug felony charge. The second count to which he pleaded guilty was possession or use of simulated controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, also a level four drug felony.

A sheriff's deputy on Nov. 20 arrested Lord for driving with a suspended license, an expired illegal registration, no liability insurance coverage, sale of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a Neosho County warrant, criminal possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.

He is being held at the Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center on no bond.

The Bourbon County Attorney's Office charged Lord with two counts of unlawful acts relating to the sale or distribution of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs or stimulants, one count each of simulated controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, use or possession prohibited, theft of a 2000 Chevrolet truck, misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving with canceled, suspended or revoked license, failure to maintain liability insurance, illegal registration and speeding.

The plea agreement dismissed those charges.

A pre-sentence investigation will detail Lord's criminal history and recommend sentencing guidelines. Lord could receive a maximum of 3 years and 5 months in prison on each count or he could get probation.

The sentencing is scheduled for April 17 in the Bourbon County District Courthouse in Fort Scott.
