'She-Power' to be offered at Day of Dance
Area women will have an opportunity to join a proactive health initiative, which will provide them with consumer rewards.
At 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Fort Scott Middle School commons area, Mercy Health Center will host Day of Dance, a recreational event designed to encourage women to take care of themselves. According to Mercy Health Center Director of Marketing and Development Carla Bryant Farmer, doors to the building will not open until 10:30 a.m.
At the event, Mercy will invite guests to join the "She-Power Consumer Rewards Program," an initiative program that will provide pertinent health education and services needed to provide proper care for themselves and their families, according to program literature provided by Farmer.
Area businesses are partnering with Mercy to provide discounts to those women who join the "She-Power" program. Farmer said that about 30 area businesses have partnered with She-Power thus far.
Women who join the program will receive specific discounts from local merchants in addition to possible special discounts throughout the year, depending on the business. Not only will members of She-Power receive discounts from many area business, but they will receive discounts from businesses that have partnered with the Mercy Health Center in Independence as well, Farmer said.
Women who decide to join the new initiative on Saturday will be given a Day of Dance T-shirt, a Spirit of Women key chain tag, which can be presented to any partnering business for discounts, and a list of business partners, including the discounts that they are offering. She-Power members will also be able to identify participating business sponsors by a Spirit of Women-She-Power decal, which will be placed in the establishments' windows.
Farmer said the list of business partners is expected to grow. As new businesses are added to the list, She-Power members will be notified of the additions, she said. Members will also be notified throughout the year about up-coming events and special offers.
According to She-Power membership coordinator Kathy Clark, She-Power members may be invited to exclusive events throughout the year. Farmer said that those who sign up for memberships will receive early notification of future Spirit of Women events, which will allow them to obtain tickets for the events at an earlier date than the general public.
The She-Power membership drive will begin on Saturday and will run until April 17, which is the date of the next Spirit of Women event. The April event will be titled "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader." For membership questions or to sign up for a She-Power membership, residents can contact Farmer at (620) 223-7026.
Saturday's event will include several door prize drawings which range in value. According to Farmer, winners of the drawings must be present to win. In addition to the door prize drawings, area women will find many other benefits to the day's events.
Farmer said that she hopes to recruit about 250 members into the program this year.
The Liberty Theatre has joined Mercy Health Center in sponsoring the Spirit of Women events. Farmer said that the Liberty has become a corporate sponsor donating its facility for about four different events this year.
