First-round State pairings revealed

First-round pairings have been announced for each of the five wrestlers from Tribune Area schools who have qualified for the respective State tournaments this weekend.

Four members of Fort Scott High School's team -- Justin Sharp, Denzell Davis, Michael Durossette and Blake Nelson -- will be competing in the Class 4A State Tournament at Salina while Jayhawk-Linn's Alan Johnson will be at the Class 3-2-1A State Tournament at Hays.

Nelson, a senior competing at 171 pounds and seeded with a record of 30-12, will face a wrestler who finished fourth at his Regional tourney last weekend. That wrestler will be a junior named Hasenbank from Concordia, who has a record of 34-9.

There are 10 who have won 30 or more matches in this bracket led by Prairie View senior Randall, who is 41-0.

Davis (20-11), third at Regionals at 119 pounds, will take on a second-place finisher, Cokeley, a freshman from Lenexa St. James who has a record of 33-5.

Sharp (25-15), fourth in his Regional at 112, will be facing Regional champion Seaton, a freshman from Basehor-Linwood who has a record of 25-4.

Durossette (17-16), competing at 125, will face Ford, a junior from Prairie View who has a season record of 30-12.

At Hays, Johnson (21-4), who was third in his Regional last weekend, will face Regional runner-up Bosworth of Sabetha, who is 26-11.

First-round competition begins at both sites Friday morning at 10 a.m. Second-round championship matches begin at 1:45 p.m. with the first-round of consolation and the championship semifinals taking place simultaneously at 4:30.

Saturday's action also begins at 10 a.m. with the championship matches set for 6:30 p.m.
