Greyhound offense fades in 2nd half
KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Fort Scott Community College's offense faded in the second half, allowing Kansas City Kansas to come away with a 52-51 victory in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play at the KCKCC Fieldhouse here Wednesday night.
The Greyhounds (1-8 East, 6-15 overall) were shooting 50 percent from the field at halftime, having made 13 of 26 field-goal attempts. But KCK (2-7, 10-11) trailed just 28-27 despite going just 10 of 29 in the first half.
But Greyhound shooting fell off dramatically in the second half to 39 percent on nine of 23. Fort Scott couldn't help itself at the free-throw line, either, going just six of 21 there in the game and five of 13 in the second half.
Arsenio Williams led Fort Scott with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Brandon Dougherty added 10 points.
Dusty Burdolski paced KCK with 13 points.
Fort Scott had a 43-31 rebounding advantage. But the 'Hounds also committed 19 turnovers to Kansas City's 11.
The 'Hounds, who have lost 10 of their last 11 games, will begin the second round through the conference schedule when third-place Coffeyville (6-3, 13-6) comes to Arnold Arena at 4p.m. Saturday. The Red Ravens were 80-69 winners at Coffeyville in the conference opener on Jan. 5 and beat Labette, 91-67, Wednesday night.
