Jayhawk girls win two to start week
Jayhawk-Linn's girls picked up a pair of victories to start the week, including their first in Pioneer League play. Both games were on the road.
The Jayhawks beat Marmaton Valley in a make-up game, 64-41, Monday then defeated league rival Wellsville, 38-29, Tuesday.
Jayhawk-Linn's boys lost both times. Marmaton Valley took a 51-20 decision while Wellsville claimed a 56-51 win. No details were available from the Wellsville contest.
Monday: Jayhawk-Linn girls 64, Marmaton Valley 41.
Taylor Dawson led the way with 16 points for the Jayhawks while Kaylee Brownback added 12 and Cassie Rockers scored 10.
Brownback was also credited with nine rebounds for the 'Hawks. Rockers picked up five steals.
Jayhawk-Linn committed just 13 turnovers.
The Jayhawks held a comfortable lead through most of the game. They were up 14-6 after one period and 32-20 at halftime.
Jill Hartman led Marmaton Valley with 18 points.
Marmaton Valley defeated Altoona-Midway on Tuesday for just its second victory of the season in 14 tries.
Monday: Marmaton Valley 51, Jayhawk-Linn 20.
Gavin Cole's 27 points helped lead the Wildcats (11-3 after defeating Altoona-Midway Tuesday). Kris Bogan was Jayhawk-Linn's leading scorer with six points.
Marmaton Valley led 13-4 after one and 32-12 at the half.
Jayhawk-Linn stands at 2-12 with an 0-4 Pioneer League mark after Tuesday's loss to Wellsville.

This was a hard-fought game in the first half with Wellsville (3-11, 1-3) holding a slim 9-8 lead after one period of play.
The Jayhawks outscored the Eagles 10-7 in the second period to take the lead at halftime. That was duplicated in the third period to make it a 28-23 lead.
Dawson scored eight points for the Jayhawks while Brownback, Elisha Jones and Chelsea Beckman each had six.
Brownback led in rebounds again as she hauled down nine. Beckman dished three assists while Amory Miller had three steals.
It was the first win for the Jayhawks in the Pioneer League (9-5, 1-3) despite the fact that they're the only team in the first-year league with an overall winning record.
Jayhawk teams remain on the road Friday as they travel to Prairie View for a league doubleheader.
