Evelyn E. Swaim, 93, of Fort Scott, formerly of Hiawatha, died Friday afternoon, Dec. 14, 2007, at the Fort Scott Manor.

She was born Jan. 26, 1914, in Brown County, Kan., the daughter of Fred and Cleo Porter Hull. She grew up in Brown County, Kan.

She married Charles A. Swaim in Troy, Kan., on Feb. 28, 1931. They lived on a farm northeast of Robinson. Evelyn and Charles ran the Candy Stripe Drive In in Hiawatha. Charles preceded her in death April 9, 2002.

Evelyn was a 60 year member of the Zenith Chapter No. 184 OES, Past Matron of White Cloud Chapter OES, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha, volunteered with the Hiawatha Community Hospital Auxillary, and loved her card clubs. She was also a member of the music club and Past Matron's Club in Hiawatha.

She is survived by a son, Larry Dean Swaim and wife Charlotte of Fort Scott, a granddaughter, Lisa Collier and husband Troy of Paola, Kan., a grandson Aaron Swaim and wife Allison of Gardner, Kan., and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister, Daisy Cassell.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Pastor Bill Worcester will officiate. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery northeast of Hiawatha in the Mt. Zion Community.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. An Order of Eastern Star service will take place at 10:30 a.m. courtesy of the Zenith Chapter No. 184. Friends may call the funeral home after noon Monday.
