Participation makes for fun time

It was a nice evening for the senior citizens dance at Buck Run Community Center. There were 68 present, and I am sure everyone enjoyed the evening.

Before the dance started there were people greeting people and talking about the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and the ball games. The routing goes about the same, with Clarence leading the band as the lights are turned down. Then Alva sings a song and greets everyone again. We all take our turn in playing and singing. Then, with the song, "Put Your Little Foot Out," a few get out on the floor and do the step.

It is nice to see them out and remembering the step and trying to teach others.

A waltz is good to get more out on the floor again. Alva does a good job on his violin and likes to get them all out on the floor.

About 7 p.m. the Senior Swingers' special guests of the evening were called to the front stage.

Dorothy and Marvin Taylor celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary today, Nov. 26. They were presented a beautiful anniversary cake, and Alva McNeely sang the "Anniversary Song" to them as they danced. They were given a hearty welcome. Several pictures were taken. Then everybody danced with them.

At break time there were two new guests introduced, Toni Russell and Fred Grable from Pittsburg. They both love to dance, and I am sure they will be back again.

We had the line dance, as usual, and there were 17 taking part. Alva sings the appropriate song for them, and it is good to see so many taking part.

Max and Pauling Davidson were back from their bout in the hospital and are still trying to gain their strength back.

Bonnie Gaddy fell and injured her back again. She was taking it easy and not doing much dancing.

They usually come a bit early and help put out the tables and chairs, but she backed off tonight.

It is so good to see the different ones start putting out tables and chairs as soon as they arrive. The same is done when the dance is over. By the time the band members have their instruments ready to go home, the floor is clear and all the chairs and tables are put away. Thanks to everyone cooperating.

There will be a dance Tuesday night at the senior center on Joplin Street in Pittsburg.

There will also be a dance at Cadmus Friday night and also a dance at the Nevada Community Center on Friday night, which was rescheduled from last week. They start at 7 p.m. and everyone brings finger food.
