Arcadians get together for Halloween night fellowship

The day Delton Watt Jr. drove his car home from Texas, he stopped to visit his mother, Mae Watt, before heading for his new home in Fayette, Mo.
John Parrish celebrated his recent birthday with a family dinner at Chicken Annie's in Girard. Those present were Wayne and Christie Parrish; Jenny, Ryan, Kaden, Karter and Allyson Dugan; Janet, Mark and Tara VanLeeuwen. At a later time, pictures of Janet and Mark, dressed for a masquerade party as Miss Kitty and Wyatt Earp, were viewed by friends
At the Craw-Kan Annual Telephone meeting in Girard on Oct. 23, three of the $50 prizes went to James Wood, Pauline Smith, and Thelma Medley in Arcadia.
On the first Sunday in November, Gary Peterson was guest teacher of the young folks, Bridgette Sprague, Danielle and Alanis Heinrich, in Sunday School in Arcadia Christian Church. Twenty enjoyed the monthly church dinner that afternoon including guests, Ralph and Cindy Shead from Carl Junction, Mo.
On Nov. 13 and the week following, the Sheads, Pastor David Peterson and Jace and Jess Pavlik will be attending the National Missionary Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. A large group from Ozark Christian College will also be in attendance.
Ernestine Berkey visited her sister-in-law, Melba Ward, in the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg (formerly the Beverly). Later that week Forrest and Ernestine Berkey attended the KKOW 70th Anniversary Concert of Restless Heart featuring the well-known Virgil Glenn and Delton James Windsor.
Chris King and her mother, Tasci King of Joplin, visited at the Larry Shead farm on Thursday evening. They brought many pumpkins to be used for November decorations at the time of the King family Thanksgiving dinner reunion.
Nov. 17, AHS Our Gang will have their Turkey Dinner Night. Everyone is to bring $2 plus a covered dish.
Halloween night, the Christian Church folks met for a wiener roast in Emory Brigg's Little Park, south of his former home. Adults enjoyed the trick-or-treaters who went by in their costumes. Twenty pounds of wieners were consumed along with accompaniments.
Seventy attended the October Kids Night. Two hay rack rides were taken. The Free Will Baptist Church folks came from Oskaloosa again, bearing a gift package for the name drawing. The Crawford family name was drawn. Lots of wieners were roasted over the open fire in the back yard of Arcadia Community Center.
Class No. 10's October meeting was conducted by Patty Peterson, who was voted into the presidency for the next year. Mary Lee Payne is the vice president with Betty Dehn as treasurer.
Seven cheer cards had been sent since the September meeting. Roll call asked to name each person's favorite Bible story.
Patty gave the lesson about God's chosen people including Isaac, Rebekah and Jacob. Jesus was descended from Abraham and that is how Christians, Jesus' followers, come to be among God's chosen people.
Betty assisted Patty in serving red velvet cake with ice cream, nuts, candy corn and coffee to the class members plus Carole Garrison, Pastor David Peterson, Jerry and Lilly Coonrod and Mary V. Shead, who gave the blessing.
The bungalow had Halloween and fall decorations by Patty, who closed the day with this Irish Blessing: "May the road rise to met you; May the wind always be at your back; May the sunshine warm your face; The rain fall soft upon your field And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand."
