Hartman family comes together for reunion
Descendants of Wesley and Hulda Jane Anderson Hartman met at the Community Christian Church in Fort Scott on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Seventy-five members were present for the celebration. The children of Wes and Hulda were: Alice Tippie, Albert, Leonard, Edwin, John, Arthur, Alva, Crete, and Mary.
Wesley and Hulda Jane lived in the Turkey Creek neighborhood north of Uniontown for all of their married life.
Ed Hartman asked Jake Underwood to open the business meeting and to give his relationship to the Hartmans. Jake's dad's sister, Lydia, married Albert Hartman. Sister Mattie married John Hartman (his first wife). Both were sons of Wes and Hulda.
Wesley was born in Salem, N.C., in 1845. He moved to Mississippi in 1850 with his parents. Wes' father, William Hartman, was killed in Missouri at the beginning of the Civil War. We need further research to determine if he was killed by the north or the south, and apparently by some type of savagery.
Records show four brothers entered the Civil War; two brothers with the Union, and two brothers with the Confederacy. Brothers John Hartman and Wesley Hartman enlisted in the 12th Kansas Infantry at Neosho, Mo., in 1861. Two brothers, Alex Hartman and George Hartman joined the Confederates at Pineville, Mo. This is just a few miles southeast of Neosho. We would think the family came to Neosho, Mo., from Mississippi, as the death of the grandfather was in this area and the four brothers joined the service in the Neosho-Pineville area.
Present for the 2007 reunion were: From the Ed and Bell Kirker Hartman lineage; Ray and Rena Hartman (deceased); Elaine Hartman and Bob Todd, and Leo and Arla Hartman; from the Ruby Hartman Fink lineage (last living offspring of Edward and Belle Kirker Hartman): Mike, Cheryl, Cody, Kathryn Combs, and Amanda Brown; Mike, Rachelle, Adam and Hope Barker; Raymond and Marie Barker; Mitch and Kim Barker, A.J. and Kaitlan; Terry, Linda Josh and Clint Lawrence, and Irene Kennedy.
