Donald L. Carpenter
Donald L. Carpenter, 83, of Arma died at 1:45 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Arma Care Center in Arma.
Mr. Carpenter was born March 8, 1924 at Fort Scott, Kansas the son of Lloyd and Jessie M. Welty Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was a sheet metal worker who worked for Cessena, Beech and Helio Aircraft. He lived in the Arcadia-Arma area most his life. He was raised in Vernon County, Missouri and attended Missouri schools.
He married Margaret L. Bowles on Jan 18, 1947, at Fort Scott, Kansas. Mrs. Carpenter preceded him in death May 16, 2007.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Arcadia. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy in the South Pacific aboard the USS Macdonough. Survivors include one daughter, Debra Carpenter of Arma, three sons, Michael Carpenter and his wife Linda of Garland, Stephen Carpenter of the home and James Carpenter and his wife Roxann of Arma, one brother, Harold Carpenter of Nevada, Mo, five grandchildren, Brian Carpenter, Brad Carpenter and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Ruby Smith and three brothers, George, Bill and Floyd Carpenter.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Wed, Oct. 3, 2007 at Shiloh Cemetery near Oskaloosa, Mo with Dale Cummins of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kans. 66712.
