FREDONIA -- Adrienne Tourtillott scored a season-best 50 to finish sixth individually here Thursday as she helped lead Fort Scott High's golfers to a fourth-place finish at the 11-team Fredonia Invitational.

Fort Scott head coach Karen Curran was not available for comment prior to the print edition's deadline this morning. The Tribune will post her remarks online at www.fstribune.com/sports should they become available later today.

Uniontown was also represented here but was able to send just three golfers due to a wrist injury to senior Kiersten Elder.

"She hurt her wrist Tuesday on the eighth hole during the tournament at Fort Scott," Uniontown head coach Alan Shinn said. "She tried to play but while she was on the driving range before the meet, she just wasn't able to swing the club."

Fort Scott scored 231 as a team in finshing three strokes ahead of Caney Valley for fourth place. Pittsburg was the team winner with a 209 as three of its golfers won medals.

Monica Soper of Pittsburg shot 44 to beat Columbus' Lacie Hale and McKenzie Hatfield by two strokes for individual honors. Rachel Wilson of Fredonia finished fourth with a 48 and Annie Calvert of Andover Central was fifth with a 49.

Kacie Brown posted Fort Scott's next-best score as she matched her season best of 56. But while that was good for sixth place Tuesday, it tied for 14th here in this deeper field.

Cassie Ogran shot a 60 and Jessica Henry a 65 to round out the four scores included in the team score. Dana Ballou shot a season-best 66 for the Tigers and Shelby Blackburn finished at 68.

Taylor Hanson shot 71 for Uniontown. Raven Hixon and Emily Pulliam each shot 87.

"They all had some good shots today," Shinn said. "But for some reasons here and there, they were not able to post a score as well as we would have liked. All three have gotten better as the season's progressed."

Uniontown hosts an 18-hole tournament Monday at 1 p.m. at Fort Scott Country Club. Fort Scott is idle until Tuesday when it goes to Pittsburg's Crestwood Country Club.
