Riverton shuts out Uniontown

UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Riverton scored on the game's first possession and held on for a 7-0 victory over host Uniontown in a non-league football game here Friday night.

Brent Cates' one-yard TD plunge early in the first period proved to be the only score in this game, one which settled into become a defensive battle on a rain-soaked field.

"It was two teams that played hard and got after it," Uniontown head coach Jim Mason said. "The field, I don't think had a great deal to do with it."

Both teams had six first downs but Uniontown gained only 58 total yards on the night. Zach Mason rushed for 37 of Uniontown's 43 ground yards on 30 team carries. Riverton had 190 total yards, with 109 coming on the ground.

Shawn Pritchett led the Eagles, 0-2, with 12 tackles while David Shank made 11 stops.

The Eagles travel to Lyndon Friday night. The Tigers remained undefeated by beating Allen-Northern Heights, 35-28.
