Fort Scott men to face charges of crimes against minors
Two Fort Scott men appeared in court Thursday to face allegations of crimes against two 15-year-old girls.
Floyd Alexander Gibson, 29, and Aaron J. Myers, 27, were charged in Bourbon County District Court. District Judge Mark Ward set a $100,000 cash/surety bond for each. They are currently being held at Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center.
Bourbon County Attorney Terri Johnson charged Gibson with one count of felony criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent libeties with a child, three counts of indecent liberties with a child, and misdeameanor charges of unlawful hosting of minors consuming alcohol, two counts of edangering a child.
He faces a maximum of 75 years for the felony counts.
Myers was charged with one count of indecent liberties with a child, indecent solicitation of a child, and misdeameanor counts of furnishing a cereal malt beverage to a minor, and two counts of endangering a child.
Myers faces a maximum of 15 years on the felony counts.
The alleged incidents between the victims and Gibson occurred sometime between Sept. 1-3, except for the endangering a child charge, which allegedly happened on Sept. 1.
The majority of the alleged crimes between the victims and Myers happened sometime between Sept. 1-3, except for the indecent solicitation of a child, which court records showed occurred sometime between July 1 and Sept. 3.
Gibson is employed as a teacher's aide at the automotive department at Fort Scott High School. He told Ward that during Thursday's first appearance.
"You won't be working at Fort Scott High School," Ward informed Gibson, if he posts bond.
FSHS Principal Bob Beckham said Gibson would've only been working at the school for this semester.
Myers worked as a substitute teacher for USD 234. "You won't be a substitute teacher for USD 234," Ward also told Myers.
Ward also barred the two from contacting anyone under 18 years-old, any of the witnesses or consuming alcohol, if they should post bond.
Beckham couldn't comment on further details of the case.
However, he did say Fort Scott Police talked to Gibson at the high school on Tuesday and transported him to the police station.
On Tuesday, police received information that led a search of two residences in Fort Scott. The information, which was not disclosed, led to their arrests Tuesday evening.
Gibson lives at 915 Shepherd St., and Myers resides at 424 S. Judson St.
Beckham nor Johnson could say whether the two alleged victims attend the high school. Johnson declined to say if the two suspects used their positions at the school to meet or entice the girls.
According to court records, there were two alleged victims, both of whom have the same birthdate.
No other details of the incident were released by officials.
