Tiger harriers begin season at LC

ALTAMONT -- Fort Scott High's cross country season began bright and early here Thursday morning with the Labette County Invitational.

Catherine Sercer was the best runner for the Tigers on the day, completing her varsity girls' two-mile run in 15:26.58. Alicia Whitehurst of Independence was the race winner in 15:02.76.

Daisy Jones placed 25th for the Tigers in 17:22.70 with teammate Sarah Gray one spot behind in 17:25.00.

Charlie Sercer, the only competitor for the varsity boys, placed 13th for the Tigers in the five-kilometer race with a time of 17:47.26. Phillip Banowetz of host LCHS won the race in 16:18.68.

Kaylie Harper finished fifth for the girls' JV team, running the two miles in 16:25.33. Kim Henry was 16th in 17:40.85 with Erica Davis 19th 9n 17:51.70 and Kim Stone 33rd in 20:49.25.

Colton Ballou finished 56th in the two-mile boys' JV race in 17:54.43. Craig Davenport was 61st in 19:45.52.

The Tigers host their annual meet Thursday at 4 p.m. on the field behind the Great West Insurance building at 2108 S. Horton.
