A 'wake up call' for Christ's followers

Friday, August 31, 2007

On Sept. 16 - 20, 13 churches of various denominations will be coming together for a wake up call to return to the church's mission and purpose. This "wake up call" is under the theme, "Jesus is Coming Back…Will the Church be Ready?" Month's of preparation and prayer will make way for the beginning of services at 7 p.m. each evening, on the corner of Wall and Main Streets, which will last until approximately 8:30 p.m. Each night will feature a different speaker together with Praise and Worship.

The event planners believe the "wake up call" has been created under the influence of the Holy Spirit to invigorate all the local churches of Fort Scott and the surrounding area to return to the original mandate given the church by Jesus Christ.

"We believe Jesus Himself has called us together," said one of the planners. "This wake up call is more than a series of meetings. It is a calling of Christ to His church to return to its primary purpose of reaching the lost in this area."

No seating will be provided so everyone should bring their own chair, lawn chair, etc. Water stations will be provided for those who need or want water and offering receptacles will be provided for those who would like to contribute to the expenses of this "wake up call."

"We encourage all the churches to cancel their Sunday night services to attend and to attend nightly meeting," said one of the planners. "The focus will be on Jesus, not denominational doctrines or creeds. This is a critical time for Fort Scott, and the church should step up, answering the call of Jesus to help our city."
