FSHS Class of 1957 to conduct reunion
The Fort Scott High School Class of 1957 has scheduled a special 50-year reunion and memorial service that will take place Oct. 18-20 in Fort Scott.
Event planners have scheduled a variety of activities to take place the first two days of the reunion, which will conclude on the third day with a special memorial service for members of the Class of 1957 who have died, class member Leon Sinn said.
The memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Old Congregational Church, 502 S. National Ave. In a written statement, Sinn said the memorial service will be conducted to celebrate the lives of the following class members:
Ruth Eileen Blake Sherrell, who died in 1995; Norma Jean Cummins Suse, who died in 1978; Montague Kay Epps Tillman, who died in 2002; Joy Vesta Fowler Theisen, who died in 2002; Emery Dale Hall, who died in 1999; Diana May Heffernan Peintner, who died in 1995; Donald Dwayne Key, who died in 1994; Louise Eileen Long Hanshaw, who died in 2006; Janet Nathiel Matkin Henne, who died in 1963; Kent Wiles Ober, who died in 1991; Harold Lenard Palmer, who died in 1982; John Louis J.L. Sanborn, who died in 2001; Kenneth Eugene Sinn, who died in 2005; Hazel Marie Walker Burnett, who died in 2002; James Whitcomb Winston, who died in 2005; Gerald Lee Woods, who died in 1999; Patricia Louise Young Potter Branden, who died in 2006; David Ballou, who died in 1991; Callie Sue Spence Brewer, who died in 1997; Karen Burnett Kraft, who died in 1999; Arthur Butler, who died in 1987; Frank Cunningham, who died in 1955; Gerald Wayne Kelly, who died in 2007; Thomas More, who died in 2004; Russell Pulliam, who died in 1994; and Frankie Sanders, who died in 1995.
Class of '57 student body president Jack Landers will speak about "The Measure of Life," followed by the reciting of "The Crimson," the FSHS school song.
The service is scheduled to conclude with the reciting of The Lord's Prayer by class member Donald Meek and all those in attendance. Class member Kent Atkins will provide closing remarks, followed by a postlude performance by the FSHS ensemble.
