Youth dove hunt, pre-hunt workshop

There will be a special Youth Dove Hunt on Saturday, Sept. 1. Participants must also attend a Pre-Hunt Workshop starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Shawnee Trail Shop. The workshop will cover dove identification, management, hunting basics, gun/hunting safety and each youth will then participate in trap shooting. In order to provide these youth hunters a good opportunity to see and shoot at doves, there are fields in which only youth hunters will be allowed to hunt. This area will be closed to all hunting and scouting until after the Youth Hunt on Sept. 1. Once the youth have had their chance to hunt these fields, other hunters will be able to hunt the field for the remainder or the season. For youth to participate in this special hunt, they must register and attend a pre-hunt workshop on Aug. 25. Youth must be Hunter Education certified to attend.
