Swingers kick up their heels at Buck Run

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

It was a perfect evening for the senior citizen dance at Buck Run Community Center. We are always glad to see a few couples come in early and help put out the tables and chairs. Many times those couples leave soon after break time and others stay and help with the final closing of the evening, while the band members are putting their instruments away to take home, some of the dancers stay and help put the tables and chairs and big fans away.

With the temperature like it is we are glad to have the fans going as soon as possible.

We had a good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy the evening.

At 7 p.m., Violet Hull was called to center stage. She will celebrate her 76th birthday Tuesday Aug. 14. She was presented a beautiful decorated birthday cake, a dozen yellow roses and balloons by her husband Bob. Pictures were taken. We all sang "Happy Birthday" to her led by Alva McNeely and gave her a hand of cheer. The cake was cut and served at break time.

Virginia and Alva McNeely brought a big bucket of ice cream and it was served with the cake. Thanks folks.

There were two new guests tonight. Betty Wheeler from Colorado came with her sister. She had been to the dance quite sometime ago and I am sure she enjoy seeing us all again.

Norman Gates played three numbers on his harmonica after break time. Thanks Norman.

A get well card was signed for Laurence Bowyer who is ill with leg trouble. We wish him a speedy recovery. They do love to dance.

There will be a dance at Cadmus Friday night.
