Thomas Richard McManis, Sr., 54, a resident of Mulberry, Kan, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at his home. Tom was born Sept. 13, 1952, in Pittsburg, Kan, the son of Thurman Eugene McManis and Helen Marie Barker McManis. He worked for many years as a mechanic for SEK-CAP and also as a caretaker for the Garden of Memories Cemetery for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Dee Flippo on Aug. 23, 1994, in Fort Scott, Kan. Tom loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved gardening and flowers. He was an avid dirt track auto racer and was devoted to his CB radio. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Pittsburg, Kan.

Tom is survived by his wife, Dee, of the home; son Thomas McManis, Jr. and wife Leslie, Girard, Kan,; step-son James Williams and wife Laura, Fort Scott; three daughters, Jeannie Hill and husband Stephen, Joplin, Mo., Sabrina McCormick and husband Randy, Walters, Okla,, and Suzy Coleman and husband Rob, Fayette, Ala.; brother, William McManis, Pittsburg, Kan.; four sisters, Donna Wiehl, Lockwood, Mo., Susan McGuire and Sharon McManis, both of Pittsburg, Kan., and Peggy McManis, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his maternal and paternal grandparents and his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Susan Moore; brother, James McManis; and sister, Phyllis McManis. Funeral services for Tom McManis will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. The family will receive friends for visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
