Ethys May Miller

Ethys May Miller, 97, formerly of Fort Scott, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at the Aberdeen Village Nursing Home in Olathe, Kan. She was born Nov. 14, 1909 in Brookhaven, Miss., the daughter of Metticus W. and Lena (Clark) May. She married Henry Blonn Miller Oct. 8, 1933, in El Dorado Springs, Mo. He preceded her in death May 19, 1990.

Ethys attended Chillicothe Business School, and then came to Fort Scott to work for Western Union. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School there for many years. Many people in the area will remember Ethys' friendly and kind ways during the years she worked with her husband at Miller Feed and Oil. She also enjoyed writing poetry and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters; Cherie Southwell and husband Philip of Overland Park, Kan., Judith Franken and husband Gunter of Koenigswinter, Germany, a son; Blonn "Candy" Miller, of Fort Scott, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter; Juliana Miller, five sisters, and a brother. The Rev. Steve MacArthur will conduct graveside services for Ethys 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Evergreen Cemetery.

Family and friends will meet at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. and leave for the cemetery at 9:45. Visitation for Ethys will be Monday, July 30, 2007 from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be emailed to the family at expressions@konantz-cheney.com.
