Jammin' with Jim to perform at Heritage Park
The local musical group, Jammin' with Jim, is scheduled to perform a free concert Friday evening in downtown Fort Scott.
The group, which consists of local residents Jim and Darlene Shoemaker, Arnold Schofield, Carolyn Tucker, Brendan Russell and Floyd Feezell, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Park and Pavilion located at the corner of First and Main streets. The concert is part of the ongoing concert series sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Division.
The Shoemakers are returning by popular demand and will perform music from the 1940s and 1950s, gospel music, and a variety of popular show tunes. Jim Shoemaker plays the organ, while his wife, Darlene, will play the keyboard. Russell will assist the band on drums.
In honor of the National Day of the American Cowboy, there will also be a tribute to the American cowboy through song, and a telling of poetry and cowboy folklore. Schofield, a local historian who is heavily involved in the annual Echoes of the Trail cowboy gathering in Fort Scott, will give that presentation. Floyd plans to perform historic cowboy songs.
The public is invited to attend the concert, and are reminded to come early and bring their own lawn chairs and cowboy attire such as boots and hats.
