UHS class of '77 planning 30-year reunion
The Uniontown High School class of 1977 is planning a 30-year reunion, tentatively set for Sept. 1. At this point they are contacting members and trying to locate those who have moved away. They would like to find addresses on Gary Hartman, and JoAnne Freeman. If anyone knows of these members, please contact Becky Geiger Brown at 7332 SW 60th St., Augusta, KS 67010, or by phone at (316) 259-8799. There is no e-mail address at this time.
The Uniontown Senior Citizens met May 29 in the community building, for their monthly potluck dinner. Karen Sager called the meeting to order, due to the illness of President Rita Peterson. Alice Clayton gave the table grace and opening prayer for the meeting. Following the dinner, Sager called the business meeting to order. Cindy Davidson brought the "guess what," cleverly arranged in a stack of little gifts. The three who guessed the contents were members Anna Rose, Alice Clayton, and Hazel Burt. The group reported 55 sunshine calls. There were nine present and two guests, Andy and Alice Reese.
The American Baptist Women met June 5, for their monthly meeting in the fellowship hall of the church. Alice Clayton presided at the meeting and opened with prayer. Roll call was answered by each telling their favorite book of the Bible. Five members had read the book of the month which was First and Second Thessalonians.
Sixty-eight sunshine calls were reported by the nine members present. Devotions were given by Sandy Rich.
The minutes of the last meeting were read by Judy Ramsey in the absence of Secretary Mary Bruner. Anna Rose gave the treasurer's report. The Love Gift dedication was given by Lulu Feldhut, who also read an article, "The Lord Gives Me Peace."
The Grace Hill Association Summer Rally will be held July 17 at the Uniontown Church. The food committee met and planned food for that meeting, and Anna Rose called for voluntary donations of food for the meeting.
Sandy Rich gave the lesson, "God Comes Near" taken from the book, "Warnings."
Ruth Wilson dismissed the meeting with prayer. Hazel Burt served refreshments of cup cakes and pineapple juice. The hostess gift, a loaf of cranberry, apricot and orange bread was won by Lulu Feldhut.
On Monday Theda Headley, Katherine Roof, and Hazel Burt attended the S.O.C.K. meeting at Iola which was a Tri-County picnic. Junior Taylor, Kincaid, played guitar music, and sang numbers, assisted by two ladies in presenting the program. The Iola group hosted the event, and each one present received a hostess gift.
Dewaine Geiger attended the funeral of Terry Carter held at the Baptist Church in Coffeyville Monday. Terry was serving as president of the Kansas Masonic Home Board of Directors, Wichita, a position held for several years. A large number of members of the Masonic Lodge from over the state attended the services.
Dewaine and Beverly Geiger attended visitation for Wanda Janes Hirt, age 52, which was held at the Brenner Funeral Home, Pittsburg. Wanda was a half-sister to Donald Janes, New London, Conn., and Rocky Janes, Havana, Ga., who are nephews of Beverly Geiger. Donald Janes also attended the services, and will fly home on Tuesday.
George and Esther Holt have returned from visiting their son Brent Holt, Blacksburg, Va. While there they attended the high school graduation services for their grandson Logan Holt, held at Virginia Tech., where 400 students received their diplomas.
They report a great time was held.
Pat McClenahan, President of the Uniontown United Methodist Women planned a very special meeting for June 13 meeting. The intent of the meeting was to honor all the ladies in the church who cannot attend UMW because they work, but still find time to support the projects in the way of dishes of food for the dinners served by the organization. A 7 p.m. salad supper with members bringing special salads was served in the church fellowship hall and preceded the business meeting. Guests arrived and found tables decorated with a nautical theme. The tables were laid with blue cloth, with round glass stones, representing drops of water, boats, sand buckets, thongs, water goggles, and plastic turtles. Mrs. Norma Dunn voiced the table grace.
Pat McClenahan introduced Shirley Ashford, Iola, who brought the entertainment in the form of a book review. She was dressed in clothing much as a young girl would wear. She took on the personality of Virginia Carrie Hudson, who was 10 years old.
The setting was during the period of time when farms produced much of their food, butter was churned and homes had coal stoves for heating. The humorous antics evolved around this idea, and were most entertaining and enjoyable. At the close of her remarks, she was presented with a thank you gift from our President.
A short business meeting was held. The Purpose was read in unison. 13 answered roll call, and the minutes were read and approved.
The bridal shower honoring Meaghan Jackson and Matt Russell is to be June 23, at 2 p.m., at the First Missionary Baptist Church. The community is invited to attend. Bring kitchen supplies and favorite recipes.
The kitchen cabinets in the church have been cleared out in readiness for the new kitchen to be installed. The new range for the kitchen has arrived.
Carol George has completed the organization of a new prayer chain list which is to be given to all members.
There is to be a city-wide garage sale in the Uniontown Park in July, date to be announced.
The old dark brown range in the kitchen is to be sold, as it will not be needed. It was suggested that it be sold in the garage sale.
There will be no Ruritan Dinner in June, as the Ruritan Club will be honoring the Uniontown Senior Citizens. The next Ruritan dinner will be July 16 and a Chairman is needed. This will be a summer picnic with fried chicken.
The meeting closed with a drawing. Members guessed a number between 1 and 100. Carol George won the floral arrangement. Pat McClenahan dismissed the group with prayer.
