Out in the open air

Fort Scott resident Mary Grogman waits patiently for customers at her booth Wednesday morning in the parking lot at the corner of Fourth and Judson streets, the site of the twice-weekly Bourbon County Area Farmers Market. Grogman sells a variety of gifts and crafts, including scented air fresheners, lotions, soaps and candles. At the market, sponsored by the Fort Scott PRIDE organization, area producers can sell their wares, including fruits, vegetables, baked goods, arts and crafts, and even perennial plants, shrubs and flowers. The market is open Wednesday and Saturday mornings between May and October. Vendors are not required to pay fees to use the booths but must pay required state sales tax. Vendors Randy and Barbara Gray talk to customers in the background. Tribune photo/Jason E. Silvers
