Memorial Day, summer activities bring family, friends together

The annual Eisenbrandt reunion and picnic was held at noon Memorial Day at the Hiattville United Methodist Church fellowship room. A time of visiting and eating was enjoyed by all attending. Those attending were Ruby Eisenbrandt and Dorothy Johnson, Humboldt; Lloyd Elbrader, Neosho, Mo.; Evelyn Shull, Maize; Lisa Hill, Ben and Cameron, Cheney; Jason and Heather Meisenheimer, Shayna, Alyssa and Daniel and Karissa Strack, Nevada, Mo.; Jim and Kaylene Shore, Jessica, Brad, Grace, Abby and Sam, Paola; Joe and Loretta George, Girard; Ryan Tommie, Riley and Carson Miller, Mark Hartman, Uniontown; David Elbrader, Redfield; Hannah Harris, Hepler; Thelma Buntain, Leo and Arla Hartman, Vera and Sarah Norris, Don and Carrie Elbrader, Gary and Theresa Buntain, Janet, Stephan and Michelle; Joyce Metcalf, Larry and Beverly Peel, all of Fort Scott; Bob and Glenda Miller, Elmer and Mabel Miller of Hiattville. Afternoon callers were Kevin, Rachel and Kole Wagner.

The Rev. Ken Woods was guest speaker at the Hiattville United Methodist Church June 3. His wife Jenny was also a welcome guest. Lorna Slater and Lavone Page gave birthday offerings.

Worship assistants for the month of June are liturgist David Schwalm; greeters Bill and Jennifer Sampson and ushers Jamie Collins and Katelyn Vincent.

Judy Tripp recently spent a few days in Lincoln, visiting with their sons and their families. She also enjoyed visiting with her brothers.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland Bonjour of Topeka spend Friday night, June 1, and Saturday with Ron and Shirley Palmer. Friday evening, Shirley and the Bonjours along with Beverly Davis and Clara Brewer attended the reception for Grand Marshal Judith Caputo at Kent Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in Weir. On Saturday evening, the Bonjours and Shirley attended the reception of Grand Marshal Loree Mendenhall at Swan Chapter in La Cygne.

Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brillhart and John Slater attended a sheep show in Lawrence June 3. They helped a group of 4- H children with their lambs and sheep.

Ann Ludlum accompanied a group of 4- Hers to Rock Springs Ranch this week. Hannah Fry was one of the group going.

Katelyn Vincent attended Discovery Camp this past week. The United Methodist Kansas East Conference conducted its annual meeting June 6- 9 at Baker University in Baldwin City. Pastor Dallas Peterson attended this conference to represent Hiattville United Methodist Church.

Sunday evening supper guests June 3 at the home of Charles and Paula Brewer were Tom and Karen Hanke of Mapleton, Iowa.

On Memorial Day, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Christy were hosts to a family get together in honor of their son Richard and girlfriend Kristen Jenco from New York. About 31 people enjoyed the day.

Supper guests of Ed and Barb McDaniel June 4 were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kanke of Mapleton, Iowa and Clara Brewer.

While his parents, Mark and Dian Brillhart, and his Grandpa Slater were at the sheep show June 3, Clayton Brillhart enjoyed spending the day with his grandma, Lorna Slater and attended church and Sunday School with her.

Members of Ideal Chapter No. 369 attending the official visit of Worthy Grand Matron Isabel Adams and Worthy Grand Patron Mike Towner of at Olive Chapter 13 in Fort Scott June 5 were Shirley J. Palmer, Beverly Davis, Clara Brewer, Effie and Dean Mitchell.

Mr. and Mrs. John Slater treated Lavone Page to dinner at The Hot Wok June 6 in honor of her birthday.

Haying seems to be the order of the day for most of the farmers in the community. Yields are down due to the hard freeze we had in early April.
