Four from Fort Scott named in baseball
Fort Scott High School saw four of its players selected by league coaches in balloting for the 2007 All-Southeast Kansas League baseball team recently.
Senior outfielder-pitcher Drew Lawson and junior infielder John Leek were named to the First Team. Independence, the league champion, saw four members named to the First Team while runner-up Pittsburg had three,
Indy's picks were seniors Tyler Stein, Brandon Kelly and Trent Goins and junior Dan Gross. Pittsburg's choices were senior Nate Percy, junior Brandon Spear and sophomore Zach White.
Labette County, which, like Fort Scott, represented the league in the Class 4A State Tournament, also had two picks in senior Keith Turner and junior Quentin Ybarra.
One player was chosen from the remaining schools: Parsons senior Jeff Schibi, Columbus senior Chris Duley, Chanute senior Jamie Westerman, Iola senior John Sigg and Coffeyville junior Skylar Wright.
Seniors Cody Kramer, who played several positions, and Dillon Knopp, a catcher, were Fort Scott's picks on the Second Team.
Independence saw senior Brandon Daniels and junior Cole Pasternak named. Junior Austin Russ and Ryan Williams were Pittsburg's selections. Senior Nick Stacy and junior Jacob Bierbrody were picked from Labette County.
Rounding out the Second Team are Parsons senior Devin Martinez and sophomore Brett Cares, Columbus junior Corbin Stanley and sophomore Justin Pillar, Chanute senior Dallas Mildfelt and Iola junior Keatin Herder.
The voting was conducted before the State Tournament and players were selected regardless of position.
