Softball coaches honor six Tigers
League coaches picked six Fort Scott High players when voting took place for the 2007 All-Southeast Kansas League softball team recently.
First Team honors went to three seniors: catcher Amanda Metcalf, center fielder Crystal Colvin and second baseman Tab Colvin.
League champion Pittsburg had the most players selected, all seniors: Cara Russell, Savannah Remmich, Haylee Spencer and Cassie Wilson. Fort Scott, the league runner-up, had the second-most selections, followed by Columbus and Iola with two each.
Columbus' players were both juniors: Maddie Overman and Kayla DeRusse. For Iola, junior Shawna Blakesley and sophomore Jenna Sigg were chosen.
Each of the other teams had one player selected, all of whom were juniors: Morgan Fox of Independence, Jymie Graham of Labette County, Diana Cook of Coffeyville, Chelsea Allen of Chanute and Kandra Long of Parsons.
Six schools had two players picked for Second Team honors, including Fort Scott senior shortstop Erin Floyd and junior pitcher-outfielder Afton Gray. From Pittsburg, senior Carly Free and junior Megan Barrager were chosen. Columbus' picks were junior Jordan Allen and sophomore Bailie Hatfield. Independence saw senior Amber Jones and sophomore Brooke Rollison selected. Both Iola picks were sophomores in Kylie Taylor and Megan Dillow. Labette County's choices were junior Ashley Pritchard and the only freshman tabbed, Lakin Myers.
Senior Kristi Ellis of Chanute and sophomore Megan Hoppenstedt of Coffeyville rounded out the Second Team.
