VFW Auxiliary presents awards, certificates of appreciation
President Sharon Reed opened the May meeting of the ladies VFW Auxiliary meeting with 14 members present. The minutes from the April meeting will be read at the June meeting. The treasurer's report was approved subject to audit. Official and other communications included a thank you from the Department of Veterans Affairs for comfort items donated. Awards and certificates of appreciation for the auxiliary included: Active participation, Legislative program, Pack program, Second place national home, First place hospital, First place Div. 3, Veteran and family support, Maurita Russell for Buddy Poppy, Jr. Girls, Youth activities and a letter received concerning an outstanding year for the district.
Reports of Committees: Buddy Poppy -- Maurita Russell pleased with first place award. Cancer -- Sharon Reed working on Relay for Life Team through Woods. Community Service -- sending grocery coupons to overseas veterans and their families. Encourages all to bring to post home for this cause.
Unfinished business: In elections -- positions not voted on last month were: Treasurer -- Linda Ashcraft; Jr. Vice -- Peggy Ellis; Secretary -- Maurita Russell; Conductress -- holding until next month, not present; Chaplain -- Margaret Carter.
In new business: June 1 -- Good Ol' Days Parade -- meet at post home. June 8, 9-10 -- Convention, Sharon Reed attending. Sept. 29 -- Hospital picnic in Lawrence.
