Special celebrations held to honor loved ones on Mother's Day

Dorothy Ketner, Anna Rourk and Esther Secrest enjoyed dinner at Chicken Annie's, Girard, May 9.
Pastor Muhota's sermon at the Diamond Community Church on May 13, was "Hats Off To Mothers." The special was sung by Bro and Rahab Muhota. Each mother present received a flower. The oldest mother was Edna Mae Marsh and the youngest mother attending was Clara Schofield.
Guests with Pearl Conner for Mother's Day weekend were Larry and Ann Conner, Grove, Okla. and Doug and Beverly Conner and family, Joplin, Mo. The all attended Cherry Grove Church on Sunday.
Jon Bingesser, Pittsburg, was home for Mother's Day weekend.
Dixie Wooley and Lynette Turney spent May 12 with Esther Secrest. They brought flowers and filled her flower boxes on the porch. later that afternoon they joined Dale and Betty Hixon for lunch at the El Charro restaurant.
The youth at the Cherry Grove Church presented each mother with a card and a ballpoint pen for Mother's Day. The mothers joined the choir for the morning service, singing "How Great Thou Art." Pastor Cummins sermon was "Humble Lifestyle." based on Peter 5:6-11.
Mary Ellen Lundberg enjoyed a cookout at her son Eddie Lundberg's on May 13. Danielle Lundberg cooked dinner for her mother, Christine and grandmother, Mary Ellen.
Marty and Georgia Strickland visited with Mary Ellen Lundberg on May 13.
The Kan-Mo Jolly Circle Club met with Helen Pettibon, Nevada, on May 17. Eight members answered roll with their favorite snack. Opal Brillhart conducted the meeting. The group sang "The More We Get Together." The hostess read a scripture and the good thought was "Don't forget to be kind." She also gave us a Bible quiz. Mary Ellen Lundberg read a poem about "Grandma's Shoes." Reports were given. Iva Bley was honored for her 90th birthday. The hostess gift was won by Hesta Bridges. The Lord's Prayer was prayed. Winners at Bingo were Ruby Kennedy, Iva Bley, Hazel Gulliford, Esther Secrest and Opal Brillhart. Opal also won the blackout prize. The June 21 meeting will be with Hesta Bridges. Roll call will be an unusual gadget. Refreshments were served.
Margie Albright recently went to Kansas City where she watched her nephew, Tim Murphy and other FAA members competed in a car repair contest.
Lois Ann Query recently spent some time in Dallas, Texas, where she visited her cousin, Geraldine Bise and family.
On May 12, Bud and Bernice Noore, Cushing, Okla. visited with Mary Ellen Lundberg.
Carolyn Sisson, Mapleton, was honored on her special birthday with dinner at Eddie and Opal Brillharts on May 14. The aunts decorated the house and helped with dinner. Her aunt Faye Cowan baked a lovely angel food cake that was enjoyed by all.
After dinner, presents were opened and pictures taken. Those attending were her husband, Bill, Pauline Norris, Ruth Walker, Charlene Bruns and Kate Brillhart; from Mapleton were Faye Cowan, Bill and Norma Cowan.
Lucile Wolf and Ruby Myers shopped in Pittsburg, May 21.
H. Ruby gave a birthday offering at the Cherry Grove Church on May 20. Keith and Amanda Akins had an anniversary. Pastor Dale Cummins sermon was "Why Continue To Learn?" based on Proverbs 1:1-7. Charlotte Dunlay sang "For Those Tears He Cried." Keith Akins became a member of the church.
Eldon and Pam Korinek celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary by going to Branson May 19-20.
Esther Secrest returned home Monday after spending the weekend in Catoosa, Okla. to attend the high school graduation of her great-grandson, Michael Hodges, from Catoosa High School. She spent time with her daughter, Dixie Wooley and family.
