100 YEARS AGO (1907)

On Thursday and Friday night of this week ag Convention Hall the annual school entertainment will be given. There will be 150 in the chorus, or in other words the largest chorus ever assembled in any home talent production. The name of the show is the "Princess Snow White." There are four principle characters: Princess, Clara Wagner; Queen, Irene Dunckle; Prince, Charley Harris; the Huntsman, Harry Walsh.

Mrs. E.F. Ware. the wife of the Kansas bard, is here from Topeka as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Bayless.

Professor J.L. Brown, who will take a good position in Chicago, will take with him a fine gold watch chain which was tendered him by the Sunday School of Grace M.E. church. Superintendent Ward Alsip made the presentation.

75 YEARS AGO (1932)

Workmen were mowing the lawn on the Plaza grounds this morning. There is an excellent stand of grass on the historic grounds this season.

Art Cook plans to open the Cook Service Garage at Oak and Judson streets. Mr. Cook was formerly manager for D. Miller, Chevrolet dealer, and also operated the C&S Garage. He has had much experience in motor car work.

Today is the last day to fish at Rock Creek Lake before the ban goes on for the spawning season. The lake will be reopened June 15.

The 19 children of the Children's Home had a mighty good time at the circus last night when the Rotarians played host to the kiddies. They were thrilled by seeing the horses and dogs and the acrobats. In charge were the following members: G.R. Hughes, Dr. M. F. Jarrett, Roscoe Campbell, Walter Glunz and Fred Lundquist, together with their wives.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Land had ring side seats at last night's performance by the Harrington Nickle Plate Circus. Mr. Harrington is a nephew of Mr. Land.

50 YEARS AGO (1957)

Mrs. Mable L. Whiteside, 23 West Wall Street, announces the engagement of her daughter, Mildred M. Whiteside, to John W. Seavers, son of J. B. Seavers, Route 5.

Captain Jack Ahrens and Lieutenant Bob Pratz flew here from Enterprise, Ala., on a cross country flight. They visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ahrens and Mrs. Beulah Pratz.

Thirteen doctors were present for the meeting of the Bourbon County Medical Society and Mercy Hospital staff. Dr. Leland Randles presided in the absence of Dr. Raymond Gench. The program was in charge of Dr. James Basham.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Campbell of Mapleton, who were in the city today, report a good rain in their vicinity last night. A high wind blew down some electric light wires and the town was out of electricity from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

25 YEARS AGO (1982))
