Virginia Chambers of LaCygne spent the weekend of April 28 through May 2 with Lavone Page. She was a visitor at church April 29.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell attended the fund raiser dinner at the Garland Fire Department, April 28.
The P. P. R. committee met May 1 at the church with David Schwalm presiding. Those present were Pastor Peterson, Beverly Davis, Judy Tripp and Clara Brewer.
Members of Ideal Chapter No. 369 Order of the Eastern Star attending the reception for the new Worthy Grand Patron Mike Towner in Ottawa, May 5, were Shirley J. Palmer, past grand matron and grand trustee, Beverly Davis and Lynda Foster. Kevin and Rachel Wagner helped with the country store and auction at Christian Heights School on Saturday, May 5. In the evening, Clara, Paula and Charles attended the dinner and auction.
Kelly Ludlum spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Joe and Ann, and was a visitor at church Sunday morning as was Chaftin Leggett, a young friend of John and Lorna Slater.
Jamie Cullins gave her birthday offering at worship May 6. Pastor Peterson's sermon was titled "The Last Commandment." Scripture was read from Revelations 21: 1- 6 and John 13: 31- 35.
Worship assistants for the month of May are Greeters, Elmer and Mabel Miller; Ushers, Beverly Davis and Clara Brewer; and Liturgist Ronnie Brown.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Waring were Sunday evening callers at the Dean Mitchell home.
Sunday afternoon callers at the Clara Brewer home were Rachel, Kayla, and Kole Wagner, Ed and Barb McDaniel and Paula Brewer.
Beverly Davis, Effie Mitchell and Clara Brewer attended the reception and official visit of the new District Aide of District No. 4 Lorraine Morrison at Amy Chapter No. 165 in Galena, May 8.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell, Beverly Davis, and Clara Brewer attended the reception for Grand Representative Mary Beckford, May 9 at Violet Chapter No. 200, Fulton.
Ideal Chapter No. 369 met May 10 with Effie and Dean Mitchell presiding in the East. Mrs. Mitchell welcomed everyone with a poem about May. Proving chapter was practiced by the conductresses.
The minutes of the April 26 meeting were approved as read. Margaret McDermed gave the treasurer's report and stated that she had rented a safe deposit box at Liberty Savings and Loan for the CD's belonging to the Chapter.
The associate matron appointed Gayla Croan and Lynda Foster as the refreshment committee for the May 24 meeting.
A letter form Mike Towner, worthy grand patron, confirming he will be present on June 14 to present 60 year certificates and 50 year pins.
The secretary reported that she had received word from Grand Chaplain David Blocker that he would like to know the names of the closest relative of any deceased member so that condolences could be sent to them from the Grand family.
Other correspondence included invitation to Galena May 8 for the reception for the new District Aide Lorraine Morrison, Golden Rod Chapter No. 163, Yates Center for the official visit of the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron on May 21, Kent Chapter No. 117 Weir for the reception of the Grand Marshall Judith Caputo, and to Olive Chapter 13, Fort Scott, for the official visit of the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron on June 5. A letter from Chance Fischer, a member of the DeMolay Chapter at Arma, asking if the Chapter would like to place an ad in the program book for their State Conclave to be held in Coffeyville, July 13- 14.
The Chapter voted to send a contribution to the DeMolay Chapter at Arma.
A discussion was held concerning whether Ideal Chapter would participate in a three way meeting with Violet Chapter and Olive Chapter for the official visit of the District Aide. No decision was made concerning this matter.
Some plans were discussed for the meeting June 14, when the Worthy Grand Patron Mike Towner would be present. There will be an open meeting at 7 p. m. for the presentation of pins, so relatives that are not members may be present. The regular meeting will follow with a salad supper immediately following the closing of Chapter.
The Chapter voted to present honorary memberships to both the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron at this meeting.
As the Chapter will be celebrating its 95th birthday in 2008, the Chapter voted to ask Karen Adams, associate grand matron and David Rake, associate grand patron to make an official visit to Ideal Chapel in May that year.
Margaret McDermed reported that she had sent get well cards to Sharon Thompson and Ruth Lewis since the last meeting. She also reported that Marge Lewis and Agnes Armstrong were feeling much better.
During the good of the order, the eight mothers present were presented small potted plants by the worthy matron and worthy patron. Mrs. Mitchell honored them with a poem about what mothers and what children see.
The Chapter is 94 years old this month. Several members told about some of the things that have happened in the past. Ideal Chapter now has six charters hanging on the walls due to consolidations.
Until 1947, Ideal Chapter had never had a grand appointment.
That year, Ruth Perry was appointed district aide. Since then the chapter has had several grand appointments, the latest being Beverly Davis, serving as Grand Ruth this past year.
Beverly Davis reported on the reception of both the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron. She and Lynda Foster had attended these meetings. Clara Brewer reported on the visit to Galena and Effie Mitchell reported on the visit to Fulton.
Refreshments of sandwiches, fruit cocktail cake, chips, dip and ice tea were served by Margaret McDermed and Dorothy Ketner.
