Fort Scott JV seventh in varsity golf tourney
GIRARD -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity golf team went to Girard Thursday to participate in a nine-hole tournament here.
This was a varsity tournament. But the Tigers performed well, shooting 185 and finishing seventh out of 10 complete teams (four other schools didn't have the four players required to record a team score).
Pittsburg Colgan won the tournament with a score of 156. Girard was right behind with a 158 and Baxter Springs was third with a 168.
Fort Scott finished three strokes ahead of Southeast-Cherokee and four up on Frontenac. They were just 12 shots behind the Pittsburg varsity for sixth.
Fort Scott's low scorers were Kenny Shaw, Evan Heiser and Andrew Defenbaugh. All of them shot 45, tying for 28th with four other players, two of whom were from Girard.
Three other Tigers, Zack Culbertson, Tyler Cook and Corey Midkiff, tied for 45th with scores of 50. Lee Culbertson tied for 53rd with his score of 54.
The tournament was originally scheduled for 18 holes but shortened due to the forecast and the condition of the course.
