The Girard Medical Center will have a representative present at the Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens meeting on May 14 from 11 a.m. until noon for free blood pressure screenings and osteoporosis information. Bone density screening is available for $10. For information call (620) 724-0293.
All are welcome to bring a covered dish and stay for the dinner to begin at noon.
Class No. 10 held their last meeting until September on Wednesday, April 18 with eight ladies present. President Ava Mae Adams told that April is Kids Month as well as Park, Music, Easter and Medical Tech Month. She explained what the initials A.M. and F.M. stand for. IHS carved on communion tables were thought to mean "In His Service" but actually it is a foreign word that means Jesus.
She closed with a prayer entitled "I Am Blessed."
Roll call asked for something special about Easter. Pledges to the flag were ended with prayer by Betty Dehn.
Easter decorations were outstanding with a croaking frog greeting each lady as she entered the room.
The poke cake was decorated with small colored eggs and served by hostess Ava Mae with nuts and eggs and coffee. Each lady had a small yellow chick beside her plate. She was assisted by Lorene Gibson in serving the following ladies: Carole Garrison, Shirley Culbertson, Mary V. Shead, Judy Rawlings, Betty Dehn and Patty Peterson.
Sunday, April 22, Larry and Vickie, Haley and Mark with Katherine and Mary V. Shead went to Carl Junction, Mo. where they met with Cindy Shead's family from Oklahoma. Twenty-three enjoyed dinner together.
The ladies then went to near Carterville, Mo. to the country home of bride-to-be, Ashley Anderson's aunt for a relative wedding shower.
With groom-to-be, Matthew Shead at her side, the couple opened the many gifts from the guests.
The couple will be wed at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Ozark Camp and Retreat Center in Neosho, Mo.
Mae Watt received a call from son Tom Watt to introduce to her via telephone to two of his friends, Jack Jacobs and Mike Jones who also work for Retail Services, Inc. The three were planning a fishing trip on Friday morning in the K.C. area.
The following Saturday, Tom and Phyllis Watt with son Tommy Watt and Jennie Woodward played golf.
About 30 friends and relatives gathered at Sheffield Cemetery on Friday morning, April 20 for the burial of cremains of DellaBelle Teague Leonard, sister of Wiley Teague. The daughters, Dawn and Billie had charge of the service and it was very well done. Bouquet of flowers were in keeping with the service and the music was soothing. Scripture was read and friends spoke of happy days.
The last Sunday in April the JOY Sunday School Class celebrated the recent wedding of Jenny Parrish and Ryan Dugan with a beautiful cake baked and served by bride's grandmother, Vera Parrish at the beginning of Sunday class period. We wish the couple well.
During the opening exercises, the birthday song was dedicated to Delton Watt who would have been 86 on May 1 and Walter Parrish who will be 55 on May 2.
The announcement was read of the graduation of Tara VanLeeuwen on May 30 in St. Paul. She is the daughter of Mark and Janet Parrish VanLeeuwen.
Prayer time was dedicated to missions and unity of our church and government. Pastor David Peterson continued his series of sermons from Revelations 7.
Sunday School teachers Jace and Jesse Pavlik and Pastor David Peterson met Mae Watt, Patty Peterson, Carole Garrison and Mary V. Shead for dinner at Chicken Mary's Restaurant that same Sunday afternoon.
Patty Peterson visited the Girard family in Joplin soon after daughter Kristin Girard had undergone knee surgery.
Wanda Norris is back in her home after an overnight stay in St. John's hospital in Joplin last week.
Walter Foulk was able to be back in church on the last Sunday in April after several days in Mercy hospital the week before.
