Wichita man fights off would-be robber
A Wichita man fought off an attack from a suspect he said tried to rob him late Tuesday at a local motel.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Fort Scott Police responded to 1st Interstate Inn, 2222 Main St. Officers took a criminal report from 39-year-old Ryan Leer, who was staying at the motel.
Leer told police a black man confronted him in the parking lot at the south side of the building and that a fight ensued between them. According to the police account, the suspect attempted to reach in the front pockets of Leer's pants. Police didn't reveal what Leer said the suspect said to him prior to the fight.
No weapons were used in the fight, police said.
The suspect ran off in an unknown direction before police arrived, according to the police report. Police have not located the man. None of Leer's property was taken in the ordeal, police said.
Leer suffered minor injuries, although police declined to specify what kind of injuries. They didn't say whether he sought medical treatment after the attack.
Leer checked out of the motel Wednesday morning. He could not be reached for comment.
