USD 235 honors four to retire from West Bourbon
UNIONTOWN -- West Bourbon Elementary School officials will honor four of their very own during a special retirement reception later this month.
The reception, which is open to the public, is scheduled to take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 21 at WBE, 601 Fifth St.
The four teachers who will be recognized for their many years of service are Jackie Harvey, Deb Ramsey, Sherral Fry and Becky Shinn, all of whom have at least 25 years of experience working in USD 235.
WBE Principal Marianna Daugherty said the success of the four teachers exemplifies the quality educators that USD 235 has continued to produce over the years.
"I have been fortunate to have (them) as part of the WBE staff," she said. "These four dedicated women are examples of why Uniontown has such a wonderful reputation for exceptional educators. All of them are caring, hard working and child centered. We operate as a team at WBE, and these four will be greatly missed."
Shinn, a 27-year district employee, has worked as a teacher's aide and a bus driver during her years at WBE. She has also been able to witness how the USD 235 education system works as a parent whose children have progressed through the school system.
Harvey, a 29-year employee, is now working as a counselor at the school after teaching second grade at WBE for several years. Ramsey has been an elementary school teacher for 32 years, teaching mostly second grade during her career. Ramsey taught in the Kansas City area and other schools before returning to finish her career in Uniontown, Daugherty said. Fry is a 26-year employee who taught fifth graders for several years before eventually becoming a third grade teacher.
Family members, friends and co-workers of the four teachers will have an opportunity to mingle and enjoy refreshments during the reception in their honor, Daugherty said.
