Roof to celebrate 100-year milestone April 30

An area woman will celebrate her century-long life this weekend.

A birthday party for Uniontown resident Katherine Abigail Roof, who will turn 100 years old on April 30, will be conducted at 2 p. m., Sunday in the Uniontown Junior Senior High School cafeteria.

Roof was born on April 30, 1907 in Amazonia, Mo to Mary Ellen (Hunt) and Erwin John Segesman. On March 25, 1925, she married Elmer A. Roof in Fort Scott. Elmer passed away in 1982. The couple had four children, three of which have since passed away. A son, Mitchell Erwin Roof, a Holly Spings, N. C. native, remains, while daughters Norma Jean Grant, Mary Jane Trimble and Katherine Delta Roof are deceased.

Katherine also has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Katherine spent more than 50 years of her life as a farm wife, according to her son.
