Uniontown boys, Jayhawk girls take titles
UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown and Jayhawk-Linn took the top team spots on both the boys' and girls' side of the 19th Annual Uniontown Invitational track meet here Monday.
Uniontown's boys were team champs with 145 points followed by Jayhawk-Linn with 132 1/2. The order was reversed on the girls' side, where Jayhawk-Linn 171 points followed by Uniontown with 121.
Eagle boys won seven events. Brandon Boyd took three of them himself. He went 20 feet, 8 inches in long jump, ran a 23.47 in the 200 meters and set a new meet and school record by clearing 6' 6" in high jump.
Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said that the old records were 6' 4" for the meet, set by Lockhart of Altoona-Midway in 200, and 6' 5" for the school, which Don Stine claimed in an event in 1998.
Boyd was also on the winning 4x100-meter relay with Zach Mason, George Pillion and Gage McKinnis. They clocked in at 45.84 seconds.
Dominick Robinson won the shot put with an effort of 48' 8", which was over six feet better than the second-place mark. Mason won the triple jump at 40' 6" and McKinnis took the 100 meters ion 11.72.
Snyder won two events for Jayhawk-Linn. he ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.6 seconds and the 300's in 42.19.
Beckman took javelin with a mark of 152' 3". Long won the 1,600 meters in 5:24.2. And Jayhawk-Linn's 4x800-meter relay team won in 9:34.
Jayhawk-Linn's girls had eight event winners. They once again swept all three relays. The 4x100 team ran a 54.63. The 4x400 clocked in at 4:22. The 4x800 team finished in 10:43.
Dawson won the long jump for the Jayhawks at 16' 1 1/4". Drake took high jump at five feet even. Rockers went 31' 5 1/2" in triple jump.
Mayhugh won the 1,600 meters in 6:12 while Beckman took the 3,200 in 13:29.
Uniontown's girls only won one event. That was by Katie Spainhoward in the shot put with a mark of 32' 10 3/4". The Eagles finished second in six events.
Uniontown will send some athletes to Fort Scott's junior varsity meet this afternoon, Hall said. Most of the team will go to Neodesha Thursday. Competition there begins at 3:45.
Jayhawk-Linn's team will travel to Prairie View Thursday. That meet will begin at 3:30.
