Twenty attended the Easter breakfast prepared by the men of the Arcadia Christian Church on Sunday morning, April 8. Special guests of the Parish family for morning worship were Mildred Nicoletti, Janet and Mark VanLeeuwen and daughter Tara. All were happy to see Mae Watt back in church accompanied by her son Bill Watt. Jan and Vera gave their birthday offering together.

The March 10 meeting of Class No. 10 had nine present for business and social meeting. Patty Peterson was the hostess and directed a lesson on How we got the Bible. It was translated from Greek to English. President Ava Mae Adams told of many things within March as: American Red Cross Month and Food Month. She read from John 4 and in prayer asked God to keep love alive. The group heard the prayer by Patty after the flag salutes. Eight cheer cards have been sent since the last meeting. She served green Jell-O pie, with nuts and gum drops, in keeping with St. Patrick's Day. The president closed with "All talk and no walk will get you nowhere," and the Lord's Prayer recited by all.

Two special guests, Judy Rawlings and Ernestine Berkey, were welcomed. Others present were Mary Lee Payne, Carole Garrison, Lorene, Shirley Culbertson and Mary V. Shead.

At the recent election in Arcadia, Rita Murphy was the first voter, 17 voted at the community center, one person used the voting machine, there were 31 advanced ballots issued, and Eddie Wallace was the last voter. Justin Hart, of Girard, was the area supervisor; Patty Peterson, supervising judge; Linda Morris, poll manager; and Bettye Swezey and Mary V. Shead, clerks.

May Medley Kirkpatrick was in the Arcadia High School Class of 1947, which will celebrate their 60th anniversary on May 26, at Parkview Inn. We are sorry to learn of the death of May on March 16. Her twin sister, Fay Medley Dubus, in poor health lives in Andover.

Easter dinner was served at the Shead farm to Mitzi and Joel Ray from Tulsa, Okla., Mary V. Shead, Arcadia, and Haley and Mark Shead and little Katy from Fort Scott.

On the evening of March 29, a farewell buffet was served to honor Betty and Emory Briggs, at the home of Lou and Betty Dehn. Vera Parish baked and decorated the cake that read "JOY Class Loves YOU!" Others present were Gary and Patty Peterson, John and Vera Parish, Lorene Gibson, who assisted with the party; pastor David Peterson, Wayne Parish, Paul and Diane Starne, Brandy Beeching with little Taylor Love; Jace and Jess Pavlik, Joplin. Arcadia's lawman, Scottie Thompson, came by to greet the folks attending. The Briggs have sold their Arcadia home and moved to Nowata, Okla. We welcome then back often for visits.

Allen and Linda Watt of Wichita visited her daughter, Teckla and Jeff Butler and family in Kingston, Okla. en route to Dallas-Fort Worth to spend several days at the Texas Motor Speedway NASCAR races.

Louise and Howard Holland attended the monthly AHS Our Gang dinner and business meeting in Arcadia Community Center on Saturday evening, April l4. After the dinner, Ruth Holland spent the rest of the evening with Mary V. Shead. This group will not have a May meeting but instead will attend the yearly AHS Alumni dinner in the former Holiday Inn Express in Pittsburg on Memorial Saturday, May 26.

Florence Karnes of Fort Scott was special guest in Arcadia Christian Church on Sunday morning, April l5. Before Communion time, she was escorted to a front seat by Clay Carrington in order to observe the baptism of her great nephew Sam Lesley. Many of Sam's friends were in attendance that morning in order to witness this special occasion for him. Pastor David Peterson is now preaching a series of sermons taken from Revelations this quarter.

In his absence in May while he goes on a mission to Germany and Spain, his assistant will be Jace Pavlik. Jace told of his plans of a mission trip for himself and wife Jesse Pavlik to Africa in July. The couple teach the Children's Sunday School class weekly.

Birthday offerings given by Mae Watt were to honor Bobby Miller, Clifford Watt, Alex Dykes and Hali Edwards.

The change in the weather to snow on Saturday morning caused many to stay home, but those who attended the God's Coffeehouse dinner were served a fine meal including chili, chili dogs, vegetable soup, drinks and dessert. The committee gives thanks to individuals who went and business places that gave generously. The Coffeehouse will be participating in the City Wide Rummage Sale in Arcadia on April 21.

Sunday evening April l5, a large group of Mirza Shriners held a cookout in the Arcadia Community Center.

On Sunday afternoon, April 15, at the corner of Drake and Vine Streets, three little children were doing a good business as a Kool-Aid stand. Holding up a sign, people going home from church stopped for refreshment. The children thanked them and wished them to have a good day.

Tom Watt spent a night in Arcadia with his mother, Mae Watt before going to Springfield, Mo. for a business meeting.

Larry and Vickie Shead spent Good Friday in Tulsa, Okla. visiting daughter Mitzi and Joel Ray and in the home of Vicki's sister, Karen and Bruce Mow. That same evening Ralph and Cindy Shead brought dinner from Carl Junction, Mo. to his mother's home in Arcadia. Their daughter, Sarah Shead will be taking a group from her church in Dowey, Calif. on a two week mission trip to Ecuador during June and July.

While Robert Cavin from Fredricksburg, Va. was in Arcadia visiting his dad, Bob Cavin, the two were guests at Senior Swingers in Fort Scott on Monday, April 2.
