JOHN HARVEY CHAMBERS
John Harvey Chambers, age 89, of Fort Scott, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 3, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born September 4, 1917, in Fort Scott, the son of James Harvey and Emma Bessie (Dugan) Chambers. He married Marguerite L. (Wortman) Zimmerman April 10, 1943, in Wichita. She preceded him in death February 6, 1991. Harvey served his country in WWII for the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic and auto body repairman in the Fort Scott area for many years.
He enjoyed building and racing stock cars, as well as hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved his dogs and cats. He is the last of his immediate family, being survived by a step-son, Leland Zimmerman, two step-grandchildren; Roberta (Zimmerman) Forester, and Randy Zimmerman, and several step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Marguerite, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; James Chambers, Harry Chambers, and Charles Chambers, and two sisters; Lela May Chambers and Mary Amelia Chambers. The Rev. R.B. Shoemaker will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday April 6, 2007, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with burial at the Large Cemetery.
