Jayhawk girls take title at opening meet

RICHMOND -- Jayhawk-Linn's track teams opened the season here Friday at the Central Heights Invitational. The girls won the team title while the boys finished in third place.

Jayhawk girls finished with 127 points, 26 better than runner-up Waverly. Cass-Midway of Freeman, Mo. was third with 99 points. Jayhawk boys finished with 89 points while Cass-Midway won the team title with 110 points and Kansas City Christian finished second with 95.

Jayhawk-Linn's girls won seven events, including all three relays. The 4x100-meter team of Rockers, Eastwood, Hoover and Dawson ran a 54.6 in winning. The 4x400-meter relay with Hoover, Eastwood, Rockers and Dawson ran a 4:30 while the 4x800 relay of Binford, Grant, Mayhugh and Long clocked in at 11:07.

Rockers won the 200-meter dash in 27.7 seconds while Binford was second in 28.0. Grant won the 3,200 meters in 14:34 with M.Beckman third in 15:00.

Horrtor was the winner in discus with a throw of 97 feet, 9 inches. Dawson won the long jump with a leap of 17' 2".

Eastwood was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.5 seconds while Mayhugh was second in the 800 meters in 2:55 and the 1,600 meters in 6:18. Dawson finished second in the 400 meters in 66 seconds flat while Hoover was fourth in 1:10.

Thirds went to Eastwood in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.5 and Rockers in triple jump at 31' 6 1/2".

K.Wilson was fourth in javelin with a mark of 89' 4" while Drake was fourth in high jump at 4' 8".

Miller placed fifth in javelin at 84' 5" and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 55.9 seconds. H.Beckman and S.Green tied for sixth in the pole vault.

The boys had two event winners. Sissen won the 200-meter dash in 23.3 seconds. The 4x100-meter relay team produced a 47-second run in winning.

There were no second-place finishes but thirds went to the 4x800-meter relay team in 9:33, Mann in the 100 meters in 11.0 seconds, the triple jump with a mark of 40' 1 1/2" and the long jump at 21' 1 1/2", Snyder in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.3 and the 300's in 44.3.

Fourth-place finishes went to Long in the 1,600 meters in 5:30, Johanning in high jump at six feet even and the 110 hurdles in 16.0 seconds, Sisson in the 100 meters in 11.2 and Early in the 800 in 2:17.7.

Finishing fifth were Beckman in the shot put at 40' 9 1/2", Johanning in the 300 hurdles in 45.4 and the 4x400-meter relay team in 4:07.

Sixth-place finishes were recorded by Beckman in the discus at 130' 11" and the javelin at over 130 feet (the exact distance was not known) and Long in the 800 meters in 2:26.0.

Jayhawk-Linn's next meet is Thursday at Frontenac.
