Tigers open track season at Labette County
ALTAMONT -- Fort Scott High School opened its varsity and junior varsity track seasons here Friday night.
Fort Scott's varsity boys finished in fifth place as a team while the girls placed sixth. Tiger JV girls won their portion of the meet while the JV boys finished in fifth place.
Varsity boys scored 55 points. Iola took first place with 100 1/2 points followed by Parsons with 71 and Chanute and Fredonia each with 64.
Zak Al-Shawish won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.71 seconds and placed fourth in the 300's in 46.84.
Grant Hartman was second in javelin with a best throw of 170 feet, 2 inches while Jake Lattimer was third with an effort of 163 feet even.
Scott Allen placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.48. Clint Lawrence was third in discus with a throw of 130' 8".
The 4x800-meter relay team of Charlie Sercer, Devon Guss, Chris Colvin and Allen placed third in 9:15. The 4x100 relay with Hartman, Mitchell Stoughton, Chris Colvin and Luke Halsey finished fourth in 47.86 seconds.
Alex Barner placed fifth in triple jump at 38 feet, 8 inches. Stoughton was sixth in the 200 meters in 24.54 seconds. Lawrence placed sixth in shot put at 40' 5".
Fort Scott's 4x400 relay with Halsey, Al-Shawish, Colvin and Allen placed sixth in 3:52.89.
Varsity girls scored 55 points. Girard was the meet winner with 113 points followed by Iola with 93 points, Chanute with 65, Fredonia with 58 and Labette County with 57.
Breianna Jones won the 100-meter dash in 13.13 and was second in the 200 in 27.07 and the 400 in 1:04.56. She also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 30' 5".
Catherine Sercer won the 3,200-meter run in 13:07, about 14 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Brittany Bingesser placed third in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.85 and finished sixth in the 100's in 21.39.
Jayci McKenney was fifth in the high jump at 4' 8" with Casey Rice sixth at 4' 4". Casie Ogran was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 30' 10".
Daisy Jones finished in sixth place in the 3,200 with a time of 15:29.
In JV girls' competition, the Tigers scored 85 points to finish ahead of Chanute and Iola, which each tied at 64 points.
Event winners were Ryan Rost in the 800 meters in 3:01.12 and the long jump at 13' 8", Annie Gladbach in the javelin at 87' 1", Courtney Carpenter in triple jump with a mark of 28' 2 1/2" and Tiffnie Bradley in the discus with a throw of 101 feet even.
Jolee Sharp placed second in the high jump with a height of 4' 8". She was also fifth in the 200 meters in 30.39 seconds. Gladbach finished second in triple jump at 27' 2".
The 4x400 relay with Sharp, Rost, Carpenter and Kaylee Parsons posted a third-place time of 5:04.65. The 4x100 relay with Sharp, Rost, Carpenter and Parsons finished fourth in 59.77.
Rost placed fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:55.46. Alana Masterson was fifth in the javelin with a mark of 71' 6". Young was sixth in discus at 68' 8".
The boys' JV scored 44 points. Labette County won the meet with 141 points followed by Iola with 105. Coffeyville was third with 84 points and Fredonia was fourth with 61.
Aaron Judy won the javelin with a mark of 141' 10". Garrett Baugher was second in the high jump at 5' 6" after tie-breakers. Brady Toole was second in the pole vault, winning a tie-breaker at 8' 6".
The Tigers' 4x800-meter relay team of Ben Sinn, Baugher, Logan Fancher and Blake Cowen was fourth with a time of 10:20. The 4x400 relay with Jacoby Zielinski, Kolby Allen, Johnathan Karleskint and Chris McAlister was fifth in 4:08.22.
Zielinski was fifth in the high hurdles in 19.2 seconds and sixth in the 300's in 47.61. Chris Archie was fifth in the 100 meters in 12.19 and the long jump at 17' 4 3/4". Allen was fifth in the javelin at 117' 5".
Ben Sinn finished sixth in the 800 meters in 2:31.00. Tyson Woodson placed sixth in the high jump at 5' 2".
The Tigers' 4x100-meter relay team with Archie, Allen, Karleskint and Baugher was sixth in 50.14.
The Tiger varsity will compete again Thursday at Paola. the junior varsity will not be in action until April 9 at the Chanute meet.
