'Hound women host Dodge tonight
Fort Scott Community College's women's basketball team hosts a Region VI Tournament first- round game tonight at Arnold Arena. Dodge City will be the opponent for the 7 p.m. tip off.
Fort Scott is the No. 3 seed from the eastern half of Region VI after finishing third in the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division. The Greyhounds are 21-9 overall, which is tied for the third-highest number of victories in school history. The Greyhounds finished regular-season play with an 83-64 victory over Labette at Arnold Arena Saturday afternoon and come into the playoff game on a two-game winning streak.
Dodge City finished in seventh place in the KJCCC-Western Division, breaking a two-game losing streak by beating Garden City, 57-54, Saturday. The Conquistadors are 11-19 on the season.
With a victory, the Greyhounds will advance to the quarterfinal round to take on the winner of the Kansas City-Cloud County game at 5 p.m. Saturday at Wichita State University. The semifinals are scheduled for Monday afternoon with the championship set for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Sophomore guard Keisha Walker, who will play at Texas Tech next season, leads the Greyhounds. She is leading the Eastern Division in scoring with an average of 20.3 points per game. Jazmin Taylor is third in the East at 15.7 points.
Patrice McKenzie, a 6' 1" sophomore center from New Zealand, is Dodge City's leading scorer, averaging 15.1 points, which is 11th in the Western Division.
Fort Scott's offense has averaged 75 points per game, second among East teams. Dodge City's defense allows 71 points per game, which is third worst in the West.
